Talk Title: AI-Driven Groundwater Level Simulation for Sustainable Water Resource Management

Ir. Ts. Gs. Dr. Chow Ming Fai is currently an Associate Professor in the Civil Engineering Discipline of the School of Engineering, Monash University Malaysia, with a solid academic background and extensive teaching-research experience. He obtained his BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering in 2007 and PhD in Civil Engineering in 2012 from the University of Technology Malaysia (UTM), and has previously worked at Academia Sinica (Taiwan) and Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), boasting a comprehensive academic career. His research focuses on four core directions: sustainable urban stormwater management, hydrological & water quality modeling, flood forecasting and inundation modeling, and hydropower and dam management, with in-depth expertise in water resources and sustainable development. As a project leader, he has successfully secured 6 research grants, including 3 FRGS grants, 1 PRGS grant from Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education, a chair grant in energy economics (GCEE) from the Energy Commission Malaysia, and an industry grant from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). He has also participated in numerous industry consultancy projects, serving clients such as TNB, TNBR, Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia (DID) and Lembaga Kemajuan Pertanian Muda (MADA). Holding multiple professional qualifications, he is a Professional Engineer (Ir.), Professional Technologist (Ts) and Professional Geospatialist recognized by Malaysian national bodies, as well as a Chartered Engineer (CEng.) by the Engineering Council UK. He was awarded the Green Talent Award by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in 2015, and has also received the Outstanding Young Academician Award and Excellent Teaching Award from Universiti Tenaga Nasional, demonstrating profound influence in both academic and practical fields.
