Dr. Muhammad Shahid Iqbal Malik is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Pak-Austria Fachhochschule, Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology, Pakistan, with 22 years of combined experience in university teaching and research as well as industrial software development, boasting both solid academic foundation and practical experience. He obtained his PhD in Computer Science (specializing in Data Mining and NLP) from the International Islamic University Islamabad, Pakistan, graduated with the first position in his master’s program, and completed his postdoctoral research in Explainable AI at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (NRU HSE) in Moscow, Russia. His core research focuses on Natural Language Processing, Data Mining, Multilingual and Multimodal AI, Large Language Models and Explainable AI, with in-depth research on cutting-edge directions such as low-resource language text analysis and harmful content detection. He has achieved remarkable research outcomes, publishing 32 peer-reviewed papers including 21 in JCR Q1 with a cumulative Impact Factor of about 125. As PI/Co-PI, he has led 3 externally funded research projects, including a 4 million RUB project at NRU HSE Moscow. He enjoys extensive academic influence, having repeatedly served as a keynote/invited speaker at international conferences such as AIST and ICBDCM. He is a member of IEEE and ACM, a reviewer for many top international journals, and a PhD supervisor certified by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. He has supervised 2 PhD theses, 17 master’s theses and 30 bachelor’s projects, with rich experience in academic leadership and curriculum development.
